The defensive fortresse of Siena against Florence
Siena built this huge fortress to be protected against Florence. Being just along the highway a quick visit is worth the half hour you need to visit the inside.
How to reach Monteriggioni from Barberino Val d'Elsa
From Barberino go to Poggibonsi and take the highway to Siena. Exit at "Monteriggioni" and continue toward Siena. The fortresse is on a little hill and you see it very well from the highway exit. At some point you have to turn left so pay attention to the first road you have because it turns very quickly and you may not notice it.
